All India Chat Room

A chat room as big as the country

All India Chat is the busiest table in Cafe Chat. It is where someone from Guwahati asks about the weather in Jaipur, a student in Indore swaps exam stories with a nurse in Kochi, and a night-shift worker in Gurugram finds someone awake in Bhubaneswar. The room is open to anyone in India, and to Indians abroad who miss talking to people from home.

Because the room mixes every state, conversations drift naturally between Hindi, English and Hinglish, with a little Tamil, Bangla or Marathi thrown in when two people from the same region find each other. If you want a room in one language, the Hindi chat room, Tamil chat and other language rooms are one click away.

What people talk about here

Cricket comes up every evening there is a match. So do films from every industry, from Bollywood to Malayalam cinema, which is a good way to find out how different the country's taste really is. Food arguments are constant: biryani styles, the right way to make chai, whose state has the best street food.

Plenty of people come in simply to talk about their day. That is the point of a public chat room: you do not need a topic, a profile or followers. Say hello, and someone will usually answer within a minute.

Why chat here instead of an app

No download, no phone number and no account. The chat runs in your browser on the ChatLife IRC network, a real-time system that has been around far longer than most messaging apps. It loads quickly on cheap phones and slow connections, which matters if you are chatting from a bus in Bihar on patchy 4G.

If the embedded window feels small, open the full-screen chat and it fills your whole screen like a native app.

How to join All India Chat

1. Pick a nickname

Type any name in the chat window. No email, phone number or password.

2. Say hello

You land in the room straight away. Say hi and mention where you are from.

3. Go private or go full screen

Tap a name to chat one-to-one, or open the full-screen chat for an app-like view.

Use the chat window at the top of this page. On a phone, open the full-screen chat for the most room to type.

All India Chat is part of Cafe Chat's free Indian chat rooms. Every room runs on the same ChatLife IRC network, so you can hop between them with /join or browse the full list of chat rooms.
